About Essex & Thames SCITT
Outstanding Support. Real Impact. Life-Changing Training.
At Essex & Thames SCITT, our mission is straightforward: to equip you with the skills, confidence, and experience to become an outstanding teacher, one who makes a lasting difference in children’s lives.
We’re proud to be more than just a teacher training provider. When you join us, you’re not just starting a course; you’re becoming part of a supportive, ambitious, and caring education family.
What Makes Us Different
1. A Trusted Local Reputation
We’ve earned an outstanding reputation across Essex, Southend and Thurrock for delivering practical, personalised teacher training — and as a result, our trainees are often among the first to secure teaching jobs, especially within our partnership schools.
2. A Powerful School Network
You’ll benefit from hands-on experience in one of over 100 local nurseries, primary schools and special schools, carefully matched to your training needs and location.
3. Accredited by Anglia Ruskin University
Our PGCE qualification is delivered in partnership with ARU, giving you access to university resources while maintaining the practical benefits of school-based training.
4. Exceptional Support
Whether you’re a recent graduate or changing careers, we provide tailored, wraparound support throughout your training and beyond.
5. A Vision That Puts Children First
Everything we do is driven by our belief that children and young people deserve the best possible education. That’s why we train teachers who are not only skilled but also compassionate, reflective, and dedicated to making a positive impact.
Our Values & Vision
As a Registered Charity (Essex & Thames Education No. 1196330), we are dedicated to developing teachers who are passionate, confident, and equipped to make informed decisions for the pupils in their care.
Our Charitable Purposes (The Objects) is to:
‘To advance the education of the public by providing digital and face-to-face training programmes for aspiring educators’.
We believe:
1. Teaching is a vocation that changes lives.
2. Support and nurture are just as important as subject knowledge.
3. Confidence grows through experience, encouragement and reflection.
4. Every trainee deserves to be seen, heard, and guided individually.
When you train with us, you’ll do more than qualify; you’ll grow into a teacher who’s ready to lead, inspire, and make a genuine impact.
We have a strong interest in preparing teachers to work in inclusive classrooms. Trainee teachers have dedicated time to explore issues of equality, diversity and inclusion, including to learn about unconscious bias and reducing barriers to learning and participation for all pupils.
